The Past

As a division of City Utilities created in 1987, SpringNet provided internal communications to the utility and local municipal government facilities via fiber optical circuits. SONET technology was introduced in 1994 to provide high bandwidth delivery and recovery capabilities. SpringNet began delivering broadband services over fiber exclusively to area businesses in 1997. In 2000, transition to a 100% IP Layer 2 and Layer 3 network began which allowed SpringNet to offer business services over a standard 100Mbps Ethernet interface via a single upstream provider. Throughout the next decade, due to rapid customer growth, SpringNet introduced a multi-homed burstable Internet service to support the customer high bandwidth demands.

The Present

During times of high demand and growth, SpringNet has demonstrated its commitment to its valued customers. We continually reinforce the value SpringNet places on customer relationships by identifying solutions and striving to deliver precisely what they need, when they need it. SpringNet listened and implemented a standard symmetrical 1 Gbps customer interface over a 10 Gbps MPLS/VPLS core. SpringNet currently has multiple upstream Internet providers offering IPV4 and IPV6 routing via Tier-1 carrier circuits.

The Future

Over the years, SpringNet has demonstrated its commitment of developing Springfield, Missouri, into a technology hub and broadband community. The future will be no different. In the years to come, plans are in place to continue a steady growth of fiber in order to bring new customers closer to the unmatched performance and service provided by SpringNet. Installation of 10 Gbps hotspots within various technology incubators, small cell technology expansion within residential areas, evolution to IPV6 addressing, and supporting network speeds of 100 Gbps are a few areas of SpringNet focus. Rest assured, SpringNet will continue to lead the way as the premier fiber-to-the-business provider in southwest Missouri.

To say that SpringNet has transformed the way Mercy delivers healthcare to southwest Missouri seems a profound understatement.

SpringNet’s speed, availability, and level of commitment allows Mercy to provide services beyond our expectations.
